Grey with Envy
13 March 2008
Anyone who has been keeping an eye on my website over the past few weeks will have noticed that it recently went through a colour transformation from bottle green to shades of grey. So why, when I was so close to finishing, did I decide to completely change the colour scheme?
Well the answer is pretty simple, there are two reasons. Firstly, the particular bottle green that I had chosen must have been the least web safe colour in existence as a whole host of people reported the colour appearing in Army Green and (more disturbingly) Bogey Green – not the look I was going for…
The other reason is that for those who did manage to see the intended green, it had done an excellent job of incurring the Marmite Effect – i.e. you either love it or hate it. Again not exactly what I was going for with the design.
So what do we have now? Well after rushing back to Photoshop and producing various mock-ups in burgundy, navy blue and even trying a complete switch with some dark-on-light colour schemes I eventually decided to be really different (ha!) and go for dark grey. Grey, charcoal, lemon and baby blue – lets see how long this colour scheme lasts…
Oh and hello to anyone coming over from welovetxp, make yourselves at home!

I have to say I much prefer the grey to the greens :D
I’m also loving the blue!

I find the new colours much easier on the eye, certainly a bonus when you get older!!

Thanks!
I agree – improving the sites contrast (and therefore usability and accessibility) was one of my aims in the switch.
